ARTS High is an art-based middle school through high school
for the arts, that is part of the ESC program. It is the oldest
high school for the arts in Utah and is also based on the
freedom of the student. It is the only art-based freedom school
in the world.
What does it mean for a school to be “art-based”?
An art-based school is a educational entity that bases at least
60% of its programing in the arts. Art-based schools are
turning out the highest achievers in the world. As the United
States public schools have cut their arts programs, the US has
sunk to #17 in the world’s list of technology leaders.
Do ARTS High graduates go onto other institutes of higher
All ARTS High graduates who have elected to go on to college
have done so. ESC graduates are in all walks of life such as the
arts, business or higher education and are doing well.
Is there really a need for a program like ARTS High?
53% of Utah’s drop-outs are gifted and talented. With a
percentage like this, there is a definite need for an educational
program that caters to the artistic or entrepreneurial student

To help students through powerful learning experiences, to become literate, capable, thinking individuals who will embrace the arts and will possess the awareness, skills, motivation, discipline, and sensitivity to develop and work toward their personal visions of the future. Students will have the courage to act independently, grow spiritually, live ethically, and maintain a full and rich life, no matter which path each decides to take.
